My ePrepaid MasterCard from BPI
One way to get verified on Paypal is the use of My ePrepaid MasterCard from BPI. If you are from the Philippines and you have a Paypal account but you’re not Verified, there is another way to do it aside from UnionBank EON Card.
What is My ePrepaid MasterCard from BPI?
My ePrepaid MasterCard from BPI is a reloadable prepaid card. Which you can use to shop from MasterCard affiliated shops worldwide and online. And it can get you verified on Paypal.
This card can be used like any other credit card but, as defined, it is reloadable prepaid card. You have to put money in it before you can use it.Reloading is through BPI channels available 24/7.
How do you apply?
The good thing is, you can apply online. Apply Now!
When you apply for this card, you will be taken to their BPI Prepaid Cards Purchase Agreement. Don’t leave the page as you will need to print it (instructions at the bottom of the page) and take it with you to claim your card. Then click I Agree and you will be taken to the application form.
Read the important points, select type of card (My ePrepaid), choose your color, then start filling out the application form. At the bottom you are asked to nominate a BPI branch or BPI Express Banking Center where you can pick up your card. Click Branch Locator and you are going to be sent to another page: Find Us – Branch Locator.
For My ePrepaid Card, choose Bank of the Philippine Islands and select an area. If you are from Metro Manila, click Metro Manila and choose your area from the drop down menu. If you are from Makati, click Makati, and click Submit at the bottom.
You are then going to see a page of all the BPI branches in Makati. Find the one nearest you. For example, Buendia Center. There is a number before Buendia Center which is 372. Take a note of that and go back to the application form. Under Branch Locator, write the name of the BPI Branch you selected and the code which is 372.
Check your details and follow all instructions carefully (print the form) and Submit. Print the confirmation page that will appear after you click submit. It will instruct you when to pick up your card (after 5 working days for GMMA, and after 7 working days outside GMMA). Instructions on what to bring to claim your card are in the Confirmation Page.
One valid ID is required to claim the card and payment of the processing fee which is Php500.00 within GMMA and Php600.00 outside GMMA.
By the way, My ePrepaid MasterCard BPI can only be used to verify your Paypal account. You cannot use it to withdraw funds from Paypal. It helps if you have another BPI account, such as BPI Easy Savers. If you have another BPI Account, the nice people at BPI are going to ask for your account number when you claim your My ePrepaid MasterCard and enroll your accounts together online, so you can easily reload your ePrepaid card from the other account. The people from my BPI Branch did this for me, maybe because I told them my purpose for applying for an ePrepaid card is to get verified on Paypal, or this is the SOP.
IMPORTANT: Be sure that the details you have on your card is exactly the same as the details you have in your Paypal Account. Example: In your address, be sure that when you have the word “Subdivision” in Paypal you don’t abbreviate it in your bank details. If you have written “Subd” in your Paypal Account, please do the same in your ePrepaid Details. Be careful with the other words such as Barangay and Brgy, or Block and Blk, Lot and Lt, they should be the same as your details in Paypal. This is very important so that you get your money from Paypal without any hassle.
Get Verified on Paypal
So, let’s say you have your My ePrepaid MasterCard BPI already, and you are so eager to use it to verify your Paypal Account. First, be sure your ePrepaid Card has a load of more than a hundred pesos because part of the verification process is that Paypal is going to take Php100.00 from your card, which they are going to return after the verification process. This is just to ensure that you are the owner of the card that you are using. Don’t worry about it! Paypal returns the money without any deduction.
Log in to your Paypal Account and click Verify. When asked for type of card, click MasterCard. Put in all your card information. As I said, it should all be the same as the info in your Paypal Account, otherwise, Paypal is going to reject your card. After checking that everything is correct, click submit. Follow instructions as Paypal is going to require a verification code to complete the process.
You cannot get the verification code right away, as Paypal is going to tell you that they charged a hundred pesos or its equivalent from your MasterCard ePrepaid card to make sure it is yours. The charge creates a unique 4-digit code that will show up on the card statement in a few days.
The code will appear on the description field of your online credit card statement after 2-3 business days. If you can’t check online, you will have to wait for your card statement which might take 30 days to come in the mail.
If you don’t have time to wait, then you can send an email to:myeprepaid@bpi.com.ph and request for the verification code. Don’t forget to include your BPI My ePrepaid MasterCard Number and your full name. You may get the code in less than 2 or 3 days.
Anyway, Paypal is not going to leave you groping in the dark. They send you an email for further instructions. They help you recognize the code. For MasterCards, it looks like this: PP*4321PAYPAL -- *EXPUSE where 4321 is the 4-digit verification code. Anyway… I’m sure you get the idea by now.
So after you get your 4-digit code, log in to your Paypal Account, and go to Overview Page. Click Confirm my Debit or Credit Card. Enter the verification code.
After you’ve successfully verified your card, the Php100 charge made to generate the 4-digit code will be reimbursed to your Paypal Account within 24 hours.
There you go! You are now a Verified Paypal Account holder!
